An undercover deputies’ drug operation near Lake Underhill Road on Tuesday, ended in gunfire and a man charged with attempted homicide on a law enforcement officer.
Orange County deputies said, just before 11:00 a.m., the Narcotics Unit was conducting an operation in the area of Lake Underhill Road and Alafaya Trail. There, undercover deputies were meeting two suspects in a pickup truck parked in a parking lot bordering Alafaya Trail.
Deputies also say, as Ereka Hill, 40, stepped out of the truck to meet with an undercover deputy to complete the transaction, other deputies moved in to make arrests. That’s when Shontell McCauley, seated in the driver’s seated fired several shots at the undercover OCSO deputy. The deputy returned fire; no one was injured.
McCauley gave himself up and was arrested. He has been charged with attempted homicide on a law enforcement officer and drug possession with intent to distribute. Hill was also charged with drug possession with an intent to distribute.
As is customary, the unnamed deputy will be placed on administrative leave, pending an internal investigation.
