An angry man is in jail for shooting at a motorist as they sped along on the I-4, heading westbound near Princeton Street on Wednesday. The suspect, after he was apprehended spontaneously described to deputies that he was involved in a road rage incident.
Frank Jamon Prince, 33, of Longwood was taken into custody on Wednesday evening after firing several shots at the BMW Henry Benejan-Vazquez was driving.
Benejan-Vazquez told deputies that he tried to get away from Prince who tailed him for nearly 100 miles, weaving in and out of traffick. When Prince pulled alongside him, Benejan-Vazquez said that Prince pulled out a handgun and pointed it at him. As Benejan-Vazquez tried to evade Prince he caught up with him again, pulled along side him again and shot four times at the passenger side of Benejan-Vazquez’s vehicle. Two shots shattered the passenger window of the BMW. Benejan-Vazquez told detectives he ducked and pulled off to the side of the road and called 911.
Benejan-Vazquez said he believed Prince continued traveling westbound on the I-4, exiting at south John Young Parkway.
Deputies later identified a VolksWagon that matched the description of Prince’s vehicle. He was apprehended at Wal-mart Super Center located at 2500 south Kirkman Road. Prince’s spouse, Marquita Prince, was in the passenger when he was apprehended.
Prince told detectives that Benejan-Vazquez’s BMW had cut off his vehicle. He admitted to shooting at Benejan-Vazquez’s vehicle, saying that he had seen him reaching down in his vehicle, at which point began to shoot.
Deputies charged Prince with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful discharge of a firearm and shooting into a vehicle. He was booked into the Orange County Jail around 6:34 pm on Wednesday evening. Prince’s bond has been set at $2,750.
The investigation is ongoing.
