Man Helping Stranded Driver on Interstate 4, Killed

An unknown man died after he was struck by a Chevy on Interstate 4, near Lake Helen in Volusia County, Thursday morning officials said.

The man had driven to the area to assist another motorist, 23-year-old Tiffany Walters, of Winter Park, who had run out of gas, troopers said.

Troopers also say, Walters’ 2008 Land Rover SUV was properly parked on the right shoulder of westbound I-4, and the 2001 Ford pick-up driven by the unknown man had parked directly behind the Land Rover.

The man had exited his vehicle and was standing at the driver side of the Land Rover when he was hit by a Chevy SUV, troopers say.

32-year-old Glen Ross II, the driver of the Chevy SUV, drifted to the right shoulder and struck the Ford pick-up and Land Rover, hitting the unknown man standing there.

The man was pronounced dead on the spot.  Troopers have not yet identified the deceased.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending, troopers say.
