A Kissimmee man was killed early on Friday morning, after the vehicle he was driving ended up in a retention pond near John Young Parkway and Osceola Parkway.

Troopers believe, 39-year-old Jose Soto Maisonet may have suffered a severe medical episode, causing him to lose control of the 1994 Honda Accord he was driving.

Maisonet, heading north on John Young Parkway approaching Osceola Parkway, was attempting to make a left hand turn onto westbound Osceola Parkway, when the crash occurred. His vehicle traveled onto the shoulder of the roadway, then into the retention pond located in the northwest corner of the intersection.

Kissimmee Fire Department and Rescue Dive Team officials removed Maisonet from the vehicle, which was totally submerged.  He was pronounced dead at the scene by the medical examiner.

Troopers are continuing their investigation of the crash, but say, Maisonet has had severe medical issues in the past.
