A New Smyrna Beach man, wanted for selling cocaine, was arrested Thursday, after deputies caught him with hundreds of grams of drugs in his truck.
Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies said, they had 39-year-old James Barnett under investigation for some time and had issued a warrant for his arrest on October 31, on charges of selling cocaine.
After investigators received information that Barnett was living in the New Smyrna Beach area, he was kept under surveillance.
Barnett was spotted in his pick-up on Thursday just before 5:00 p.m. on State Road AIA, near 20th Avenue. That’s when deputies pulled him over and found about 363 grams of cocaine packaged for distribution in 11 separate plastic bags.
Deputies said, the cocaine has a street value of beteeen $10,000 to $12,000. A digital scale, a razor blade and a glass dish with cocaine residue were also seized from Barnett’s truck.
Barnett was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on a $77,000 bond. He has been charged with possession of cocaine, trafficking in cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
