An Orlando man was caught on camera burglarizing a car in a parking lot in front of the police station on south Garland Avenue last Friday night. The parking lot which was was being monitored by police TV cameras, caught the man sitting in the front seat of the vehicle he had just burglarized.
Orlando Police said that the suspect, Courtney J. Harris entered through the back door of a 2002 Lexus which was parked in lot 9 in front of the police station on 26 S. Garland Avenue.
The parking lot which is monitored via CCTV cameras picked up the suspect entering the vehicle, after he circled it a few times.
Police were called to the scene and found the suspect sitting in the front seat, who when questioned said that he knew the owner of the vehicle and was waiting for a ride. The owner of the vehicle, Christopher Walker did not know the suspect.
Police found a watch that was missing from the vehicle on the suspect’s person.
Harris was taken to the police station and upon questioning confessed to carrying out other vehicle burglaries.
Earlier on August 27, he had entered a white Chevy Impala in lot 18 and stole a white G Shock watch.
Harris confessed to the following burglaries from vehicles that were parked in lot 9:
- June 28, 2010— a bracelet
- July 1st, 2010–a gold ring and radar detector
- August 12, 2010–a gold ring
Police said that the stolen items were taken to pawn shops around Orange Blossom Trail.
Harris was booked into the Orange County Jail and charged with burglary of conveyance and petit theft. Bail was set at $3,600.
