A man was arrested in a Tampa homicide investigation after a recent Central Florida shooting.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office charged the 24-year-old man with first-degree murder following a fatal shooting near the intersection of Progress Boulevard and South 82nd Street in Tampa.
Deputies recently responded to reports of shooting at 4:19pm. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 24-year-old Terrel Ferrell, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. He had been riding as a passenger in a vehicle that also contained a female driver and a child in the backseat.
Through investigative means, detectives learned that the driver briefly stopped to speak with the suspect when the suspect opened fire. In an attempt to escape, the driver sped away and accidentally struck a motorized bicyclist, who sustained minor injuries. The vehicle continued to a nearby Thorntons convenience store to get help.
Ferrell was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified the shooter as 24-year-old Dayjon Clarke. Earlier this month, detectives located Clarke at a residence on the 100 block of Logarto Circle West in Lutz.
“This violent act stole a young man’s life and put innocent lives in jeopardy —including a child,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Let this serve as a message: if you commit a violent crime in our community, we will find you, and you will face justice.”
He faced charges of Murder in the First Degree Premeditated Firearm – Great Bodily Harm/Death, Shooting at Within or Into a Vehicle, and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
This remains an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
