A man who shot dead another man at a RaceTrac gas station on Thursday, in plain view of other people, has been arrested.

Richard McKinney, 50, was arrested without incident at a Hess gas station located on South Orange Blossom Trail just after 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Orange County deputies said.

McKinney is accused of gunning down Eric George, 42, as the pair left the RaceTrack gas station at 6001 S. John Young Parkway around 5:00 p.m., yesterday. Investigators say, both men were known to each other. George was the ex-husband of an unidentified woman and McKinney is the woman’s ex-boyfriend.

Surveillance footage showed and witnesses told Orange County deputies that George arrived at the RaceTrac gas station located at 6001 S. John Young Parkway (intersection of JYP and Oak Ridge Road), on bicycle and was inside the convenience store at the same time as McKinney. When the men walked out, McKinney pumped several bullets into George.

McKinney was transported to the Central Operations for questioning and is being booked into the Orange County Jail on homicide charges.

Deputies said the investigation is ongoing and more evidence is being collected.
