Man Arrested for Murder after Fatal Stabbing at Central Florida Park

A man was recently arrested for the murder of a woman after a fatal stabbing at a Central Florida park.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office investigated a fatal stabbing that occurred at Country Run Park. HCSO’s Communications Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a stabbing at the park located on Pepperfield Drive in Tampa last month.

Deputies responded to the scene and learned that a dispute had taken place between a male and a female. Both individuals sustained stab wounds and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The female victim later died from her injuries. The male remains hospitalized at this time.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office released the identities of the individuals involved in the fatal stabbing. The victim has been identified as 73-year-old Alida M. Simmons.

The suspect, 70-year-old Manuel Gonzalez, was charged with Premeditated First-Degree Murder with a Weapon and Armed Kidnapping. Gonzalez was hospitalized due to injuries sustained during the altercation, according to HCSO.

“This violent incident, in a place meant for families and children, is both disturbing and unacceptable,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our detectives are committed to uncovering the full truth behind this tragic incident.”

This remains an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
