Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Threat Management Unit arrested a Rhode Island man on bomb threat charges at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) Sunday evening.
The incident occurred around 5:26pm on December 17th. According to investigators, BSO deputies were alerted to a possible bomb threat in Terminal 1, located at 50 Terminal Drive at FLL. On scene, deputies made contact with an airport employee who advised Tyler Baeder stated, “Call the cops, I have a bomb in my bag.”
A preliminary investigation revealed that Baeder made the statement after having trouble using a kiosk to check into his flight. The employee immediately notified TSA, who contacted BSO deputies. Deputies immediately took Baeder into custody and evacuated the upper level of Terminal 1.
BSO’s Bomb Squad and Threat Management Unit detectives were notified and responded to investigate at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Investigators thoroughly inspected Baeder’s belongings, and the threat was deemed unfounded.
Baeder is currently being held at BSO North Broward and faces one count of false reporting concerning planting a bomb, explosive, or weapon of mass destruction and one count of resisting an officer without violence.
The investigation continues, according to local law enforcement.
