Man Arrested for Impersonating Police Officer

Ricky L. Heath--suspect

An Apopka man was arrested on Wednesday, accused of impersonating a law enforcement officer, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies said.

61-year-old Ricky L. Heath went to the Rent A Center store and attempted to purchase a laptop computer, asking for a Law Enforcement discount, as well as financing help.  Suspect Heath was asked for proof he was a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) and he produced what looked like a Sheriff’s ID, deputies said.

Heath wore what seemed like a Sheriff’s Office hat and pointed to his Gold Crown Victoria with dark tinted windows, antennas and lights inside, deputies said.

Suspect Heath in his application for financing stated that he worked for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at 5600 west Colonial Drive, since 1991. The suspect said that he drove a cold Crown Victoria with a tag of PBA448.   That tag does not exist.  Heath also wore a badge clipped to his belt to his pants when he came in to the Rent A Center store.

Deputies arrested Heath and charged him with falsely impersonating a law enforcement officer.   Deputies do not believe that Heath had any interaction with members of the public.

Anyone who may have had contact with or an interaction with suspect Heath while he was acting in the capacity of a law enforcement officer or presenting himself as one, to call Crimeline immediately at # 1-800-423-TIPS.
