Man Arrested for Fatal Hit-and-Run in Central Florida

A suspect with a warrant for a fatal hit-and-run in Central Florida that killed an 18-year-old motorcyclist was recently arrested after a local investigation.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office issued the warrant for the arrest of the suspect involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Gibsonton near Tampa. The suspect, 27-year-old Jonathan Saldana Rojas, was arrested in Pasco County.

The fatal traffic crash occurred at the intersection of Symmes Road and Southwind Lake Drive in Gibsonton. The collision involved a white sedan turning left onto Symmes Road when it collided with a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, 18-year-old Isaiah Raposa, was transported to the hospital but later pronounced deceased. The driver of the white sedan fled from the scene.

Through investigative means, local detectives located the white sedan and identified the driver as Jonathan Saldana Rojas. Saldana Rojas was wanted on charges of Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Death and No Valid Driver’s License (1st Offense).

“Every life lost on our roads is a tragedy, and in this case, the victim’s life was taken far too soon,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister.

“The arrest of this suspect highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies. We are grateful for the partnership and swift action of the Pasco Sheriff’s Office in arresting this wanted individual,” said Sheriff Chronister. “This case is a testament to how working together can bring justice to the victim and their family.”
