A man was recently arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and DUI in Central Florida.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested the 36-year-old man for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon in Brandon near Tampa after responding to the 500 block of Sandy Creek Drive after receiving reports of a man threatening two victims with a firearm inside a residence.
Upon arrival, deputies observed a green vehicle speeding away from the residence. Deputies identified the driver as the suspect and conducted a traffic stop near Garnet Drive and Bell Shoals Road.
During the traffic stop, deputies arrested 36-year-old Alexander Devane Bennett and recovered a loaded firearm from the front seat of the vehicle. The gun had 16 rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber. Additionally, deputies discovered several boxes of bulk ammunition inside the vehicle.
Alexander Devane Bennett faces charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (x2), and Driving Under the Influence.
“Reckless and dangerous behavior that threatens the safety of our community will not be tolerated in Hillsborough County. We are committed to taking every action necessary to hold this individual accountable for his actions,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our deputies’ swift actions during the traffic stop prevented this individual from committing further crimes and helped ensure the safety of our residents.”
This is an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
