A man who told police he was shooting at a target in his backyard with a BB gun, next to the Azalea Park Elementary School, has been arrested, Orlando police say.
22-year-old Hubert Xavier was taken into custody on Wednesday, charged with one count of aggravated assault.
Police were called to Azalea Park Elementary School, following a report that a man was pointing a gun toward the school.
Eric Dillion told investigators he had taken about 60 children outside the school for physical education, when he observed a man pointing a rifle at him and the kids. In fear for himself and the children, he quickly ushered the kids back into the school.
Azalea Park Elementary School was placed on lock down for 15 minutes. Police set up a perimeter and was able to identify Xavier as the man with the BB gun.
Xavier, whose backyard abuts the school, told investigators he had been shooting at a target in his backyard.
The gun and target were located, police say.
Police arrested Xavier without incident. He was booked into the Orange County Jail on a $2,500 bond.
No one was injured.
