Man, 23, Charged with Stabbing Grandmother to Death

Christopher C. Whaley - suspect

Deputies have arrested a 23-year-old man on Sunday, accused of stabbing his grandmother to death, after the two argued the day before.

Christopher C. Whaley, 23, told Polk County detectives that he got into an arument with this 69-year-old grandmother, Barbara Denmark, and his aunt, Cassandra Pippin, while he was in Daytona Beach. He decided then, when he returned home he would kill both women.

Whaley said, upon returning to the mobile home on North Scenic Highway in Lake Wales, where he was living with his grandmother, he went to the kitchen grabbed two knives and went in search of Barbara.

Whaley found his grandmother in the bath and stabbed her several times, he told deputies. At that point, he decided not to kill his aunt, Cassandra, and instead called 911 to report the crime.

Deputies said, Whaley waited inside the home until officers arrived and turned himself in.

Whaley was booked into the Polk County Jail and charged with first degree murder of Barbara Denmark.

Whaley is expected to make a first court appearance today.
