Magic to Host Young Turks

For the second consecutive year four basketball players from the NBA Skills Challenge presented by Garanti will travel to Orlando, FL, to take part in a basketball camp hosted by the Orlando Magic, it was announced today by the NBA and Garanti Bank – the NBA’s official Banking Partner in Turkey.

The four winners from the towns of Ankara, Diyarbabir, Kocaeli and Lorrach Almanya, will receive quality first-class instruction by National Basketball Academy coaches at the Orlando Magic training facility, Aug. 3-7. The five-day camp will include stretching, warm-ups, drills, skill development, stations and live games as well as individual player evaluations. An NBA player will also be on hand to give guidance.

Throughout the month of May, boys and girls aged 13-18 were given the opportunity to submit a short film of their best basketball skills on the event website www.nba-garanti.com. Street filming events also took place in Istanbul and Izmir. Over 850 videos were submitted from more than 15 different cities and towns across Turkey.

A judging panel, made up of NBA experts, selected the final 30 participants from the highest rated 100 videos as voted for by fans. The 30 best players participated in the Skills Challenge Camp in Istanbul featuring Mehmet Okur of the Utah Jazz and coach Dwyane Casey of the Dallas Mavericks. The top four players from this Camp were then selected to attend the basketball instructional camp in Orlando

Joining Garanti in supporting the NBA Skills Challenge are Spalding, the official basketball supplier, and media partners Hurriyet, NTV Spor and Virgin Radio.
