Magic to hand out healthy snacks

The Orlando Magic will continue its work with local youth this time visiting Nap Ford Community School (648 W. Livingston St., Orlando, 32801—across from Amway Arena) on Tuesday, October 14 from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. to distribute healthy snacks and read a short story on healthy eating.  Magic players, Adonal Foyle and J.J. Redick, will distribute to 160 Nap Ford students a granola bar, veggie pack, box of raisins, 100% juice box and water to replace the unhealthy snacks.  The players will also read a story on nutrition and participate in morning announcements.

The event is in conjunction with the ‘Junk Free Zone’ program developed by Nap Ford.  A ‘Junk Free Zone’ means no junk food, no junk-music (lyrics with offense/profane language), junk-free internet (only child friendly websites), junk-free movies and television (G-rated and PG only) and junk-free language (no words that hurt/profanity).  The program also aligns with one of the Magic’s focus areas—health and wellness.  This past summer the Magic identified three key focus areas to better serve the needs of the Central Florida community: education, the arts and health and wellness—specifically nutrition and exercise.
