Orlando Magic’s Lucas Boyce was named Central Florida’s 2011 Outstanding Male of the Year in Orlando Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 competition. Boyce currently serves as the Magic’s director of community relations, government affairs and multicultural insights. Each year, the OBJ selects 40 business individuals whose significant business accomplishments are supplemented by high-profile leadership positions in community projects.
Boyce’s responsibilities with the Magic include strategic business planning and government affairs, in addition to reaching out to minority organizations and arranging community service events. Some of his notable work includes growing the Magic’s supplier diversity, with $800,000 worth of supplies coming from women- and minority-owned businesses since 2010. He also helped start the El Magic brand, an NBA initiative to appeal to the growing Hispanic demographic, which includes marketing Spanish-language apparel.
Boyce is very involved in the Central Florida community working with the Orange County Library System; Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; Take Stock in Children; Orange County Public Schools; City of Life Foundation.
Earlier this year, the U.S. Junior Chamber, or Jaycees, named him one of its Ten Outstanding Young Americans of 2011. Boyce’s main advice to others is to remember that “character counts; treat everyone the same” and “want to win more than you’re afraid to fail.”
