Officer Edward Michael from OPD who was in uniform exercising his K-9 dog, Bart, next to his marked patrol car, at Trotters Park, 1905 Lee Road, was fired upon Wednesday morning around 2.43 a.m. Michael, who is assigned to the K-9 Unit midnights, took cover and returned fire.
There were no injuries to the officer or K–9. The incident is still being actively investigated.
Meanwhile, Trotters Park was closed for several hours while a ground search was conducted by SWAT officers. Orange County Chase and K-9 assisted in the search.
Several shell casings were recovered in the area of where the shots were fired.
Meanwhile, Trotters Park has now been re-opened.
