More than 100 members of the community will help Long & Scott Farms open its 11th Cornfield Maze Adventure on Friday, September 27th. This is a media day and closed to the public, but long-time community partners and patrons will be on site to kick off the event.

This year’s theme is “Fighting Hunger, Feeding Hope,” which will help raise awareness of the hunger issue in Central Florida and the work of Second Harvest Food Bank. The Food Bank’s logo – along with a few nutritious veggies – makes up the 6-acre cornfield maze design.

Guests will explore pathways cut through living cornstalks in this life-sized maze of maize. A game sheet will provide directional clues that have to do with the fun nutrition facts and more.

“Long & Scott Farms’ decision to theme this year’s maze around the hunger issue means a lot to us at Second Harvest,” said Dave Krepcho, President/CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. “September is Hunger Action Month and we’ve been working to engage citizens to take action and fight hunger in various ways throughout the month. The farm’s maze will be used through December, so it will really help keep the hunger issue in the minds of Central Floridians.”

In Central Florida, one in four children goes hungry and in the Orlando area, home to Walt Disney World and where ‘fairytail dreams come true for children of all ages at Magic Kingdom Park,’ some 12,000 seniors are unable to adequately feed themselves.

Nationwide, more than 49 million Americans suffer from food insecurity.
