Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando Area recently concluded its Women Build 2014, which raised more than $160,000 to support the organizations’ mission of providing decent and affordable housing. From March 8th to May 10th, nearly 300 Central Florida women gathered to build a three-bedroom, 1,150-square-foot home for a single mom and her children.

Sherall Leo, who received the keys to her new home that she purchased at 0% interest rate, celebrated the occasion during the 100th anniversary weekend of Mother’s Day.

“This is our fifth Women Build in Orlando, and I’m amazed each year by the overwhelming support from the community,” said Dee Danmeyer, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando Area. “From the donation of the land by the Pederson family, to Leo’s 300 sweat equity hours, to all the sponsorships from our local partners, this accomplishment was truly a team effort.”

Many local women and businesses sponsored Orlando’s Women Build event through fundraising initiatives and corporate donations. Some of the businesses include Aon Hewitt, CNL Bank, Consulate Health Care, Florida Hospital, Panera Bread, PCL Construction, Rosen Hotels & Resorts, and SunTrust Bank (Central Florida Division).
