Local Roofing Company Celebrates 25 Years

This year, Hartford South, LLC, a family-owned commercial roofing company located in Orlando, reaches a milestone – its 25th anniversary. Since 1986, the contractor has installed more than 60 million square feet of low-slope roofing systems for new construction and re-roofs and has grown from a small roofing contractor to one of the largest in Florida, with more than 100 employees.

Owned by Jay Rintelmann, Hartford South has completed projects for local and state government, hospitality, healthcare, industrial and retail clients. These high-profile jobs include the Orange County Convention Center, Rosen Shingle Creek, Mall at Millennia, the UCF School of Medicine and Florida Hospital. They have also completed 69 educational facilities, including Timber Creek High School, West Orange High School, Winter Park High School and Edgewater High School.

Over the years, Rintelmann has seen his industry change, most notably with the incorporation of “green” products and increased regulations.

“Roofing assemblies have transitioned from traditional hot asphalt to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) reflective/white single-ply,” he said. “In the future, I expect LEED and thermal efficiency to continue to thrive, and green and ‘live’ roofs to be utilized in the public sector. I expect all the regulations and requirements that have increased over the past two decades will remain in place and will be further enhanced as owners discover new ways to protect themselves from non-code compliant assemblies, breach of contracts and illegitimate contractors.”

Rintelmann is optimistic about the future of roofing in Central Florida. “I think that the economy will gradually improve over the next two years, creating new opportunities for building and growth,” he added.
