Local First Responders Train Thousands of OCPS Students in Hands-Only CPR

In recognition of World Heart Day last week, Orange County Public Schools partnered with the American Heart Association and local first responders to provide a countywide hands-only CPR training event for thousands of students.

Over 33,000 students in 22 schools were trained during this local life saving event. These trainings were led by representatives from Orlando Fire Department, Orange County Fire Rescue, Ocoee Fire Department, Apopka Fire Department, Winter Garden Fire Rescue, and Winter Park Fire Rescue.

OCPS officials said they were proud of the ability to have thousands of students in the community trained in CPR as a lifesaving initiative.

The local students were able to actively train in the process of providing the hands-only form of CPR. This includes checking for vitals, assessing ABC’s (airway, breathing, circulation) and lastly performing chest compressions until relieved by medical professionals. The knowledge students gained will not only benefit the OCPS family but the Central Florida community in general.
