Local Book Related Events

For those who want something other than shopping at the mall.  I have a list of book related events that all of us can go to and have a great time hanging out with different writers.

Come and meet author Lisa McCourt “Juicy Joy: 7 Simple Steps to Your Glorious, Gutsy Self” the self help book on love that has sold over five million copies, Wednesday March 28, 2012,  7:00 PM Barnes & Noble, Colonial Plaza Market Center 2418 E. Colonial Drive

UCF book fest March 31,  9am to 4 pm at UCF Arena.    There will be over 50 authors from all genres. Some of the writers are Michael Palmer (“Oath Of Office,”}David Palmer (“Helpless,”)” Senator Bob Graham (“Keys to the Kingdom,”) Sharyn McCrumb (“The Ballad of Tm Dooley,”)and Jeff Ashton (“Imperfect Justice.”) There will be talks by the authors, discussions, signings, and lots of tables with all kinds of books for sale.  This is only the third one of this event but it promises to be great fun. All events are free as is the parking. For a more complete list, author bios and more information on the event go to the website http://education.ucf.edu/bookfest/authors.cfm.

Though known for being a used bookstore Dog Eared Books Used Books For All Ages does sell and promote every so often some authors’ new titles.  This weekend they will be hosting a book-signing for local authors Sarah Ross and Tawdra Kandle on Saturday, March 31^st from 1 – 4 PM.  Sarah’s book, “Awaken,” and Tawdra’s book, “Fearless,” are both authors’ first books and are in the Young Adult Paranormal genre.  To find out more about each author and their books, go to www.sarahmross.com and www.tawdrakandle.com. Dog-Eared Books is located in the Publix plaza in Hunter’s Creek at 3920 Town Center Blvd (next to the Blockbuster and Pizza Hut, facing John Young Blvd.).  For more information, please call Dog-Eared Books at (407) 730-5923 or go to their web site www.dog-earedbooks.net. 

Readers of science fiction should mark their calendars for this great event in May.  Oasis 25, the science fiction convention Memorial Day Weekend.  May 25- 27 2012.  The writing guests of honor are L. E Modesiltt Jr and David Weber, Artist guest of honor Janny Wurts, and Fan guests of honor are Pat and Roger Sims.  This is a full convention that has a little of everything for all fans of the genre.  There are the gamers, costume contest, art room, and panel discussions on art of sf, poetry of sf, and many helpful talks by authors and artists on how to break into the industry.  There is a more complete guest list and prices at the website for the convention.  For more information go to http://www.oasfis.org/oasis/ May 27 – 29, 2011
