Lindsay Lohan Handcuffed, Off to Jail

Amidst a media circus outside a Los Angeles Court House, Judge Marsha Revel on Tuesday remanded Hollywood actress/model, Lindsay Lohan, into custody around 8:46 Pacific time.  Lohan begins serving a 90-day sentence in the Lynwood Correctional Facility in L.A. for violating the terms of her probation and an additional 90 days in rehab. after she serves jail time.

Lindsay Lohan begins serving jail time

In the brief court proceedings today before Lohan was remanded, Judge Revel made one change regarding the start of her rehabilitation. Revel said that she wanted her to report to rehab within 24 hours following her release from jail, rather 2-days which had earlier been stipulated.  Revel said that she “will like the transition sooner rather than later.”

Lohan, quiet throughout the brief proceedings, appeared scared and tried at times to hide behind her attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley.

Revel showed compassion by not allowing any video-taping or photographs of Lohan being remanded into custody.  There is a report indicating that Lohan was surrounded by four deputies who handcuffed her and then led her away.

Legal experts speculate that, given the over-crowding in California jails, Lohan is unlikely to serve the full 90 days of her sentence.  They anticipate that she could serve about 23 days, or about one-third of the sentence.  Revel also indicated that she was unsure as to how long Lohan would be kept in jail.

Lohan’s father, Michael, through his attorney Lisa Bloom, following the court proceedings spoke briefly to the media saying, he was devastated Lindsay was going to jail and he was in court to support her.

Earlier this month, Judge Revel had handed down the 90-day jail sentence and 90-day rehab. term on Lohan.
