It does not seem like this was a good summer for Rep. Linda Stewart (District 47), and it’s only getting worse with word that efforts are underway to possibly recruit a Democratic primary challenger.
Stewart’s troubles started when she attended a swag lobbying function to win support of local Democratic legislators orchestrated by Gray Robinson. Odd. She then emerged not concerned at all about gentrification of historic Parramore, the displacement of low-income African-American residents or the reckless local spending and now supports tax incentives for soccer. That’s right, Democrat Linda Stewart now will champion corporate welfare and gentrification.
How fast things change once they are in office. But now, Stewart is causing more of a stir with her recent vote against calling a special session to address Stand Your Ground. Stewart was one of only seven Democratic legislators to vote no – and the only one from Orlando to do so. Mike Clelland of Seminole, where the Trayvon Martin tragedy occurred also voted no. Apparently, these two are that scared of re-election.
But if Democrats won’t stand for Democratic values, principles and yes, actual Democratic constituents, then what good are they?
Perhaps that’s why some are on the hunt for a better, more representative Democrat for 2014.
To say Rep. Linda Stewart ‘abandoned her black constituents’ is the biggest pile of garbage I’ve ever heard, as well as the idea that she’s vulnerable to a Democratic primary….in my humble opinion. Rep. Stewart is a champion of the working class and a stalwart advocate for all minorities. In addition her brand is an institution and any challenger Republican or Democrat who thinks thinks they can come in and shamefully distort her record and win, is very foolish. Too bad the infamous ‘sources’ NEVER has the courage to reveal his/her name when it comes to attacking Democrats. Why is that?
