Lemon Bay High School Theatre Premieres Phantom of the Opera

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA – the musical already seen by more than 80 million people throughout the world – is making a triumphant entrance to the stage of Lemon Bay High School Theatre Department in Spring of 2011. Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s phenomenal hit first burst onto the London stage 20 years ago, and continues to play to full houses nightly in London, New York and around the world. THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA has been performed in more than 20 countries, including the USA, Japan, Canada, Austria, Germany, Sweden, Australia, Denmark, Hungary, Spain and Singapore.

As Broadway’s longest-running musical, the show has been honored with over 50 major theatre awards, including seven prominent New York Tony Awards, among them the Tony for Best Musical, seven Drama Desk Awards and three Olivier Awards. THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA has grossed more than $5 billion, making it Andrew Lloyd Webber’s and the world’s most successful musical.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is the heart-wrenching story of the mysterious “Angel of Music” who lives beneath the Paris Opera House. The hideously disfigured Phantom falls in love with the young singer Christine, devoting himself to creating a new opera star while exercising a reign of terror over the Opera House’s occupants.
With some of the most lavish sets, costumes and special effects ever to have been created for the stage, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, traces the tragic love story of the prestigious and highly sought-after role of the Phantom will be played by LBHS Sophomore, Clint Thompson, the role of Christine Daae, the phantom’s beautiful obsession will be played by Eve Grissinger, a junior. Completing the love triangle, Raoul, Christine’s love interest and childhood friend, will be played by David Skehan, (also a junior.).

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is directed by award winning director Jennifer Kelly, (The Wizard of Oz, Aida, The Wedding Singer, Cats, Swing! , Thoroughly Modern Millie) who led Lemon Bay’s Thespians to the International Thespian Festival with their production of The Wedding Singer in 2009 and once again ‘wowed’ audiences with  the highly entertaining, Wizard of Oz. Kelly is also currently producing and directing Lemon Bay High School Theatre’s fall show, Beautiful: An Original Flying Show, complete with aerial feats, special effects, powerful music, spectacular dance numbers and an inspiring story line that will be performed at the Sarasota Opera House, November 27th and 28th, 2010. Kelly is joined by co-producer and founder of the Lemon Bay HS Theatre program, Sherie Ragan (currently of Edison State College, Charlotte), Choreographer Sarah Baer, (owner of AND 5678 Dance), and Music Director, Deborah Berioli (Founder of the Venice Performing Arts Series.)
THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA will be performed at the Lemon Bay Performing Arts Center , Sunday, February 24th – 27th and Thursday – Sunday, March 3rd – 6th, 201. Curtain is at 7:30 PM on Thursday, Fridays, and Saturdays, and 3 PM for Sunday matinees.

Tickets go on sale Monday, February 7th tickets go on sale for ALL shows, at our Box Office. Tickets will go on sale online at www.lbhstheatre.com in December. The Box Office will be open Monday through Friday from 10 AM – 12 PM through February 24th and two hours before curtain February 24-March 6, 2011.

Ticket prices are $10 for students and $15 (Balcony and Limited Viewing), $20 (Mezzanine) and $25 (Orchestra) for adults, and can be purchased at the Lemon Bay Performing Arts Center Box Office beginning February 7th 2010. Online tickets will be available in December at the LBHS Theatre website: www.lbhstheatre.com.
