With the Legislative session rapidly drawing to a close, the League of Women Voters of Florida today sent a letter urging House Speaker Will Weatherford to convene a vote on the election reform package, as soon as possible.
The League is concerned that HB 7013 – the election reform package – could be lost in the fray during the final days of the session, which concludes on May 3.
In their letter, the League calls on Speaker Weatherford to “restore trust in our election system and ensure that all eligible Floridians can participate in the democratic process.”

Dear Speaker Weatherford:Â
The eyes of the world are upon you this week and the League of Women Voters of Florida looks forward to watching you rise to the occasion by overseeing the House vote on HB 7013 — a historic election reform package that will go a long way towards ensuring that all eligible Floridians are able to exercise their constitutional right to vote.Â
On the opening day of session you declared “We must restore trust in government because if the public believes that our elections are flawed…how will they ever have confidence in anything else we do here?” With the clock quickly running down on the 2013 legislative session, now is the time to act on your words and reestablish the confidence currently lacking in our state’s democratic process.Â
The League is urging you to call for an expeditious vote on HB 7013 and we look forward to seeing this notable election reform bill move through the House and land on the desk of the Governor very soon.
