Leaders pray, urge Crist’s Veto Pen

Democratic lawmakers and ministers are praying fervently that state workers’ pay will not be cut.

Following a news conference at the Capitol, Monday, the leaders made their way to Governor Charlie Crist’s office where they prayed with him, while asking that he not cut the pay of state workers.

The Reverend R. B. Homes Jr., a Florida A& M University trustee, said to Crist, “It’s on you governor, we want to hear where you are.”

Governor Crist told the group that “I am only one voice, but there are many, like 160, around here that have votes.”    However, Crist said he was hopeful that by the end of the week he would have a budget that will “protect all of you.”

According to Sen. Al Lawson, D-Tallahassee, “For the last 54 days we’ve been fighting not to get rid of jobs for state employees.  They want to balance this budget on the back of state workers.”

“We are going to fight this to the end,” said Lawson.
