Law Enforcement, Other Agencies Gear Up for Drug Take Back Day

Orange County Law Enforcement will collaborate with the Drug Enforcement Administration, Orange County Drug Free office, CrimeLine, Central Florida HIDTA and other local law enforcement agencies for National Prescription Take Back Day, Saturday October 29, 2011.

Sheriff Jerry L. Demings will join Jeffrey T. Walsh Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the DEA-Orlando District Office, Dr. Meena Morgan, ORMC Pharmacy Services Manager and Dr. Jan Garavaglia, Orange County Medical Examiner, and other law enforcement officials and community-based agencies in kicking off this local effort of a national endeavor to make our homes safer and also remove potentially addicting drugs from the reach of others.

This 3rd National Prescription Drug Take Back Day offers a convenient way for residents to safely get rid of unused and expired medications from their home with no questions asked. This past April, Americans turned in over 376,593 pounds—188 tons—of prescription drugs at nearly 5,400 sites operated by more than 3,000 of the DEA’s state and local law enforcement partners.

A media pre-event news conference will be held on October 20th at the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office, in preparation for National Prescription Take Back Day on October 29.
