Florida Highway Patrol officers are looking for a person of interest in a fatal hit and run crash that killed a 4-year-old child and injured more than a dozen other kids on Wednesday.
Troopers say, an arrest warrant has been issued for Robert Corchado, 28, believed to be the driver of a Dodge Durango which rear-ended another vehicle near the KinderCare Learning Center at 4035 Goldenrod Road, near Winter Park. The driver of the Toyota Solara slammed into the building just after 3:00 p.m., striking several children inside.
Troopers also say, Corchado fled the scene. The Durango was found abandoned in the drive way of a home off Aloma Avenue.
Law enforcement officers believe that Corchado then rented a Mazda SUV with Florida tag CHRQ 41 from Enterprise Rent a Car in Winter Park and could be attempting to leave the area. Anyone who might have seen this vehicle should contact FHP at 407-737-2200.
According to reports, Corchado was arrested last year on charges of careless driving, hit-and-run and leaving the scene of damaged property.
Meanwhile, a dozen kids were taken to four local area hospitals, including Arnold Palmer Hospital for children, where a 4-year-old child died on Wednesday night.
