Nic Strasser went 2 for 3, scored a run and set what’s believed to be a school record with four stolen bases in one game as DP Baseball came back from a 2-0 deficit to upend host Apopka, 4-2. Nolan Lang finished 1 for 1, stole two bases and scored twice. Dan Autiello got the Panthers on the board in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly to shave the margin to 2-1 and in the sixth, Michael Marinaccio drove in Hakim Nobles with an RBI double for a 3-2 lead. Jakob Probst drove in the final run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh as the Panthers (11-2) reeled off their eighth consecutive victory. Mike Flaherty got the start on the hill and went four innings, scattered three hits while allowing one earned run and fanned five. Jakob Probst came on in relief and pitched a perfect inning to pick up the win while Kyle Marman struck out two in the sixth and Ryan Larson earned the save, striking out two in the seventh.
JV Baseball continued on their recent tear with a 6-3 victory over host First Academy as Nick Mason finished 2 for 4 with a two-run home run and four RBIs. Jeremy Strong went 2 for 3 and scored twice, Ryan Evans was 1 for 2 with a pair of runs while JJ Rodgers picked up the victory on the hill. DP (9-5-1) will host Apopka Thursday before taking off for Spring Break.
Junior defensive back Nikki Green picked off three passes, returned two of them for touchdowns on the game’s first two drives and caught a touchdown pass as Flag Football routed visiting Olympia 40-0 for their third straight win to start the season. Quarterback Hannah Schaible completed 16 of 23 passes with two touchdowns, ran for another and also picked off three passes on defense, returning one for a touchdown. DP’s defense totaled six interceptions to give them 13 in three games. Jade Cheek pulled down a team-high six receptions including a score, Nikki Green hauled in four catches and also registered four flag pulls.
Men’s Volleyball improved to 6-5 on the season after sweeping Freedom 25-13, 25-20, 25-23. Alberto Feliciano finished with six digs and seven kills, Matt Rosenthal ended the night with 21 assists and eight aces and Kevin Rocklein tallied 11 kills. JV Volleyball (3-2) didn’t fare as well, falling to Freedom in three games, 24-26, 25-13, 11-15, despite a sensational night from Richard McKenzie who finished with six blocks.
Women’s Lacrosse took to the road and dispatched host Wekiva, 16-4, for their sixth straight win to improve to 9-1 on the season. JV Lacrosse upped their record to 3-3 with a 10-1 win at Wekiva, their third straight victory. Men’s Lacrosse saw Brett Forward score five goals and assist on three more but the Panthers came up short at West Orange, 15-13.
Women’s Tennis rebounded from a tough loss to Lake Highland with a strong victory at First Academy, 6-1. DP (11-6) swept singles lines one through five with Melanie Wunsch (8-3), Raphaela Frias (8-0), Tyler Brown (8-1), McKenzi Heide (8-6) and Tatiana Fernandez (8-4). Chloe Crawford and Oliwa Fiuk brought home line two doubles with an 8-1 victory to round out the match.
Men’s Tennis also shook off a loss to Lake Highland with a 6-1 victory at First Academy. Cooper Vissers took care of business in line one (8-4) with Ajay Govindaraj (8-1), Marcelo Goncalves (8-3), Nicholas San Pedro (8-2) and Isaac Tsai (8-1) taking lines two through five for the sweep. Govindaraj and Goncalves added another win in line one doubles for the final margin.
Women’s Basketball head coach Anthony Jones earned the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 8A Coach of the Year award for the third consecutive year Jones finished third in the voting for the overall Coach of the Year Award for all classifications. In the Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Basketball Award race, senior Sydnei McCaskill, the 8A Player of the Year, placed third in the voting with the award going to Gainesville Buchholz’ Jessica Thomas.
