Lakers choose D’Antoni over Jackson

Sources confirmed that the Lakers have decided to hire Mike D’Antoni over Phil Jackson.

Reports are that Jackson was “asking for too much” and talks fell through.

The deal for D’Antoni is worth 12 million dollars with a fourth year club option.

The contract was signed around 11:30 pacific time following the Lakers 103-90 win against the Sacramento Kings last night.

Owner Jerry Buss, Executive Vice President Jim Buss and General Manager Mitch Kupchek were unanimous in the decision that D’Antoni was the best choice at this time.

A friend close to Phil Jackson said he was “stunned” by the Lakers decision.

Reports were that this was Jackson’s job to turn down.

Sources told ESPN that Jackson’s triangle offense was seen as a benefit to Bryant and Pau Gasol, but not a good fit for the rest of the players on the roster especially point guard Steve Nash and center Dwight Howard

I love PJ (Phil Jackson) but I’m very excited to play for D’Antoni,” Kobe Bryant said.

D’Antoni is said to join the team sooner then expected after having knee replacement surgery over a week ago.
