A just released Census analysis by The Daily Beast puts Lakeland in Winter Haven, Florida, on the list of 10 worst dropout cities.
Lakeland joins company with other cities which include, Stockton, California; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Fresno, California; and Chattanooga, Tennessee.
While Florida has made some progress in educational attainment, there is a long way to go if it is to restore its battered economy and reduce its too high unemployment rate of 11 percent. Notwithstanding budgetary constraints, investment in education and training cannot be ignored.
As is well known, bad schools lend themselves to high dropout rates, which it turn lead to depressed lifelong incomes.
