Lake County Suspends School Impact Fees

On Tuesday, Lake County Commissioners approved an ordinance that suspends the collection of school impact fees on new developments for one year.  The Board of County Commissioners said that the move is in keeping with their continued efforts to stimulate the local economy.

The suspension is retroactive to Jan. 1, 2011 and continues through April 1, 2012.

According to the approved ordinance, which can be found online at www.lakecountyfl.gov, keyword search: “ordinance”:

“The Board of County Commissioners wish to stimulate the local economy by encouraging economic development and promoting job creation through the suspension of educational impact fees; and educational impact fees are applicable to all residential and multi-family development, and can be a substantial component of a developer’s total development costs.”

The ordinance also amends the Concurrency Management Chapter of the Land Development Regulations to allow for a corresponding suspension of associated capacity reservation fees.  This corresponding suspension applies only to capacity reservations associated with a development order, application, or building permit.
