Lake County Free Wildlife Hikes: Check Out the Reserve’s Birds, Tortoises

The Lake County Parks & Trails Division is inviting residents to attend events for the week of May 6-12. The week’s scheduled events are as follows:

· On Friday, May 11, Park Rangers will lead a hike entitled “A Home for Tortoises” from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Pasture Reserve, located on Lake Erie Road (N 28° 28’43.80” W 81° 52’42.19”) in Groveland.

At this event, participants will learn about Gopher Tortoises, management efforts to protect them, and what is being done to improve their habitat through the re-introduction of native plant species.

· On Saturday, May 12, a wildlife hike will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Ellis Acres Reserve, located at 25302 County Road 42 in Paisley.
Lake County Park Rangers will lead participants on a guided hike to observe the reserve’s birds and wildlife.

The events are free and would-be participants are encouraged to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat and hiking shoes. Reservations are encouraged, but not required.
