Lake County Officially Embraces Social Media

After months of internal testing and training, Lake County is promoting its new social media accounts, which helps provide another method for local residents to receive important updates about Lake County Government activities.

“With Florida’s Public Records Law, putting social media to good use for county government was a tricky proposition,” said Steve Earls, Director of the Lake County Department of Information Technology (IT). “Coordination between the County Attorney’s Office and the IT divisions of Information Outreach and Programming & Application Support Services helped make this project possible.”

Residents that want to stay in the loop of the latest happenings in Lake County Government, now have the option to become friends and followers on Lake County’s multitude of Facebook and Twitter pages. Current Lake County social media accounts include:

·         General Lake County Government

·         Lake County Tourism

·         Economic Growth & Redevelopment

·         Lake County Library System

·         Lake County Teen Court

·         Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant

To become friends and followers on Lake County’s Facebook and Twitter pages, log on to www.lakecountyfl.gov/socialnetworks.

“Social networking has become a primary tool for people to receive news and stay updated on the activities of their friends, colleagues and personal interests,” said Kelly LaFollette, Director of Lake County Information Outreach Division. “Lake County has joined the social networking community by creating pages on both Facebook and Twitter. In addition, the County’s YouTube channel, Ustream page, e-newsletters and tourism blog are excellent ways to find out more about Lake County.”
