A Kissimmee native recently participated in medical drills aboard the USS America deployed in the Philippine Sea.

Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Jomari Cruz, from Kissimmee in Central Florida, assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) assisted in treating a patient in the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS America’s (LHA 6) medical bay while conducting medical drills in the Philippine Sea.

America, lead ship of the America Amphibious Ready Group, along with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.

U.S. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
