Kissimmee City Commissioner Arrested

A Kissimmee City Commissioner was arrested on Thursday morning for brandishing a handgun during a verbal dispute with his wife at a graduation ceremony, Orange County deputies said.

According to OCSO:

On May 27, 2010 at approximately 10:55am Orange County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a call for service reference a disturbance in the parking lot located at 653 East Wetherbee Road. The disturbance and calls being were in reference to a male in the parking lot with a handgun.

Based on information received, upon arrival, deputies were able to secure the suspect and remove the firearm without incident.

The suspect is Kissimmee City Commissioner Carlos Irizarry.

Deputies were able to ascertain that a verbal dispute had taken place between Irizarry and his wife while both were at the location (private school), which was hosting a graduation for youngsters and attended by a large audience of parents.  Through the investigative process and after obtaining statements from witnesses investigators learned that the defendant had displayed and produced a firearm while arguing with his wife, who was in a vehicle. His actions caused fear in eyewitnesses prompting the emergency calls to 911.   The wife subsequently fled the scene.

Based on the information, eyewitness statements, and evidence (firearm) gathered at the scene, Irizarry was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Firearm.

Irizarry was transported to a local hospital for complaints of discomfort and will be subsequently booked at the Orange County Jail once cleared.

This investigation is ongoing.
