Kicks for Guns Save More Lives

The Orange County Sherriff’s Office (OCSO)  is reporting that 108 firearms were turned in under the Kicks for Guns program on Friday.

According to the OCSO, two of those firearms had been reported stolen.   These were a .45 cal semi automatic Ruger in a 1996 burglary reported to Miami-Dade PD and a .357 cal revolver- reported stolen out of Seminole County.

The Kicks for Guns also collected some 67 BB guns.

The OCSO viewed the program as successful again,  based on the number of firearms and other ammunition turned in.

However, although 108 firearms were turned in, this represents a decline of 28 percent when compared to 2008, when 149 firearms were collected.

Over the past three years, 2009 represents a year in which the least amount of firearms have been turned in, as 117 were received under the program in 2007.

Kicks 4 Guns was created by Russ Rollins from “Monsters in the Morning” at Real Radio 104.1 in 1988.  The Orange County Sheriff’s  Office has participated for the past four years in this event.

This year, OCSO handed out a $50.00 gift cards from Target in exchange for each firearm.
