“Kat” Gordon elevated to Orange County School Board Vice-Chair

District 5 School Board Member Kathleen “Kat” Gordon was elected vice-chairman of the Orange County School Board November 19. She will serve as vice chairman for one year. The vice-chairman is responsible for leading school board meetings in the Chair’s absence.

Gordon was first elected to the School Board of Orange County Public Schools in November 2000. As a school board member, she has chaired the Master Calendar Committee, as well as the Superintendent’s Evaluation and the General Counsel’s Evaluation committees.

“I am honored to serve our school district and pleased to represent all of our students and their families as school board vice chair,” said Gordon, in accepting the nomination from her seven fellow board members.

Gordon is currently a member of the board of directors of the National School Boards Association (NSBA) Black Caucus, former Southern Regional Director for African-American School Board Members, and is the former chairman of the nominating committee for the NSBA Black Caucus.

Gordon has served as Adjunct Professor at the University of Central Florida and Valencia Community College. She was promoted to Regional Vice President in a top financial company and worked full-time in the business world for six years as a licensed mortgage broker, life insurance agent, and a registered securities representative.
