The Kappa Leadership Development League, more commonly known as the Kappa League, recently inducted 12 young men into their leadership mentoring program at the Experience Christian Center in Orlando, Florida. The young men, ranging in grades 7- 11 went through the induction ceremony where they were addressed with a Charge from the current Polemarch of the Winter Park (FL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Inc., Jim Storr and presented with red ties from the Kappa League Advisors which all new inductees receive upon their entrance into the program. The ceremony was the opportunity for the young men to invite their family and friends to witness their induction into the program

The young men submitted applications to be accepted into the program that already had a membership of 15 young men who must maintain a 2.5 grade point average or higher and be in good standing with their school and communities. Some of the activities that the young men are required to participate in are community services events such as Ice Cream socials for residents at local nursing homes and the Adopt-A-Family for the Holidays program where they provide toys to needy families during the Christmas Holidays. Additionally, they sponsor educational events such as the Kappa League C.A.N (Career and Networking) Series that serves as a platform for youth to have discussions with local professionals about education, careers and life. This is done in conjunction with college visits to encourage the young men’s interest in higher education.

The Winter Park Kappa Leadership Development League, sponsored by the Winter Park Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., has been in existence since 2005. The program is the fraternity’s national youth initiative that focuses on training young men of color for leadership, achievement and service. Emphasis is placed on personal development, academic achievement and college and career preparation. The program currently has a 95% college participation rate since inception, with the most recent graduating class having a 100% college participation rate.
