Deputies have arrested a handyman and charged him with the murder of a 35-year-old Port Richey mother, early on Saturday.
40-year-old Steven R. Clairmont Jr., is now in custody, accused of killing 35-year-old Kelly Bennett in the 9200 Wilcott Lane in Port Richey, Pasco County deputies said.
Bennett’s juvenile son returned home on Saturday around 1:00 a.m., to find his mother murdered in the living room. He called 911.
A witness told investigators a man, covered in blood, was spotted walking near the intersection of Galen Wilson and Bahama Avenue around 12.30 a.m. The man was later identified as Steven Clairmont.
Authorities said, where Clairmont was seen walking is about 0.8 miles from Bennett’s house.
Clairmont has been living in Bennett’s home for about three weeks working as a handyman, authorities also said. Clairmont was charged with murder and booked into jail.
