Michael Dunn, the man who shot and killed 17-year-old Jordan Davis in 2012, was found guilty of first-degree murder by a jury on Wednesday.
In February, Dunn, was found guilty of four charges after shooting into an SUV full of teenagers at a Jacksonville, Florida gas station, after a disagreement over loud music the teens were playing. The jury was hung on the murder charge in connection with Davis’ fatal shooting in November 2012.
Three of the 10 shots that Dunn fired struck Davis, one of them cutting through his liver, a lung and his aorta.
Dunn claimed he shot at the vehicle because he thought Davis had a weapon and feared for his life. Investigators said, Davis never had a weapon and one wasn’t found in the SUV the teens were in.
Today, the jury didn’t buy Dunn’s claim and found him guilty in the shooting death of Davis.
We’re very grateful that justice has been served, not only for Jordan, but justice for Trayvon and justice for all the nameless faces and children and people who will never have a voice,” Lucia McBath, Davis’s mother, said after the verdict.
Dunn, 47, will be sentenced on October 17.
Dunn’s earlier convictions carries a maximum of at least 60 years in prison.
