Jury Decides Manslaughter Case of Neighbors Fighting Over Property Neither Owned

After a two-day trial, a Putnam County jury found Florida defendant Michael Wojcik guilty as charged of Manslaughter with a Firearm in the shooting death of a neighbor after fighting over property neither owned.

According to authorities, on March 9, 2022, Wojcik got into a verbal argument with his neighbor over a piece of property that neither of them owned off of Poplar Drive in Interlachen.

The defendant then walked home and called 911. However, before Putnam County deputies could respond, Wojcik grabbed his firearm and walked back to an area near the victim’s home.

The argument continued before the defendant pulled out the firearm and shot the victim, who was unarmed, in the chest.

The victim died from his injuries while being rushed by paramedics to the hospital.

The case was investigated by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant State Attorney Mark Johnson successfully tried the case for the state. The Honorable Alicia Washington presided over the case and will pronounce sentence at a later date. Wojcik faces 30 years in prison for the crime.
