June Jobs: 84K, Nearly A Third Were Temporary

The private sector added a mere 84,000 jobs in June, much less than that 100,000 projected by analysts for the month. To make matters worse, more than 25,000 of those jobs were temporary “help services” positions.

Overall, private-sector hiring is down both sequentially and from the year-ago period, according to the Business Insider. Last month, the private sector added 105,000 positions, including revisions upward this month. And in June 2011, the private sector added 102,000 jobs.

While the temporary health services industry added almost 33,000 more jobs compared with June 2011, given that nearly one-third of the new jobs were temporary, that’s bad news, as they might not become permanent.
