Judge Deals Severe Blow to Anthony Defense

Judge Belvin Perry dealt another blow to the Casey Anthony defense team Tuesday, denying several motions relating to evidence that could be introduced at her upcoming murder trial.

After ruling last week that a stain in the trunk of Casey’s car could be introduced at trial, Perry ruled today that heart-shaped sticker evidence found on duck tape near Caylee’s remains, was admissible.   Similar heart-shaped stickers were found in the Anthony family home.

Perry also ruled that a strand of hair showing decomposition, found in the trunk of Casey’s car will be allowed.

Casey’s defense attorneys had also filed a motion to keep out of trial all evidence relating to Canine searches and “alerts”.  But Perry denied this motion as well.

The prosecution has said two K-9s “alerted” on the presence of human remains, which they believe were Caylee’s, in the trunk of Casey’s car.

Perry is yet to rule on whether or not air samples taken from the trunk of Casey’s car, including the detection of high levels of chloroform and plant and root growth, found at the crime scene, can be introduced as evidence by the state at the murder trial.

Casey Anthony is charged with first degree murder in the death of her two-year-old daughter, Caylee.  She has maintained her innocence and has said her daughter was kidnapped by a baby sitter. The child’s remains were found in a wooded area near the Anthony family home, in December 2008.

Anthony is in the Orange County Jail awaiting trial which is expected to commence on May 9, 2011.
