Jones High School was the recipient of a $23,000 grant from AT&T on Thursday, for furthering the Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) learning opportunities for the 450 students enrolled between the two programs. Troy McNichols, AT & T regional director for External & Legislative Affairs delivered the check to Jones High students and staff today.
During the past year, students enrolled in AP classes participated in an AP Potential Assessment Survey which indicated that Jones’ students have high potential in AP music and art classes.
The AP Program through the College Board offers college-level courses at the high school level. Both the AP and IB programs provide robust studies to better prepare students for their future endeavors as they plan for college and careers.
“All students in Florida should have the materials and curriculum they need to achieve their full potential,” said Marshall Criser, president, AT&T Florida. “This program enhances student ability to compete with the best and brightest when applying to college and provides a foundation for them to succeed when they graduate and enter a competitive job market.”
In an effort to enhance student performance on AP exams and in the IB program, funding from AT&T will be used to buy learning materials for AP music theory classes, the IB Art Studio Program, and to supplement the AP and IB classroom libraries with review texts and software. These resources will help teachers and tutors better prepare students for the end-of-year AP and IB assessments, and increase the number of students who earn college credit for passing AP exams. The materials will also be accessible during an afterschool tutorial program.
