John Halligan to Speak on Cyberbullying at Holocaust Center

The Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center in Maitland has announced two special community presentations featuring John Halligan, a renowned speaker on bullying, cyberbullying and teen suicide.  He will be speaking on Tuesday December 11 at Annunciation Catholic Academy, 593 Jamestown Blvd.  in Altamonte Springs, and Wednesday December 12 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church 526 North Park Avenue in Winter Park. Both sessions are scheduled for 7 to 8:30 PM, and no admission is charged.

John Halligan’s son Ryan committed suicide after years of being bullied. Since then, Halligan has been doing presentations with a focus on what he and his wife wish that they had known before their son’s tragic death. During his program he will discuss some of the most effective ways family and friends can intervene when a child is displaying signs of stress due to bullying. He also will provide a number of internet safety tips that can help parents understand the dynamics of cyberbullying and harassment through social media.

These events are part of the Holocaust Center’s UpStanders: Stand Up To Bullying initiative. This is Halligan’s third year in Central Florida as part of the UpStanders program. He will also be doing presentations in a number of area middle schools as part of the UpStanders partnership events.
