Jobs for workers in Eustis

Congressman Alan Grayson presented a check to the Eustis Housing Authority today.  The money comes directly from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Congressman Grayson said, “The Recovery Act is delivering help to every corner of the district.  This money will allow locally-owned businesses to keep their workers working.  It will also improve housing, which is one of the most basic of human needs.  That is what ‘Progress For Central Florida’ means.”

The check was for $122,110.  Eustis Housing Authority Executive Director Horace Jones plans to use the money to paint the city’s 60 units of public housing and install new energy-efficient windows.

“This is long overdue,” Jones said.  “We’ve had some maintenance issues in public housing for some time.  This is really a great resource to continue our capital improvement plan. The cost of items that need to be repaired or replaced far outweigh our funding levels, so this money is definitely something that we can use.”

Jones intends to hire local companies to do all the work, which will help sustain jobs in the area.  The projects will be going out-to-bid within the next two weeks.
